What identification will I need?
The signer must provide acceptable identification or other satisfactory evidence of identity permitted under Pennsylvania law. Exact requirements will be confirmed before the appointment.
Should I sign the document before the appointment?
Usually, no. Keep the document unsigned unless the receiving organization or the notary specifically instructs you otherwise. The signer must personally appear for the notarization, either in person or through an approved remote platform.
Can every document be notarized online?
No. Remote online notarization depends on the document, the requested notarial act, signer eligibility and location, platform requirements, and whether the receiving party will accept an electronic notarization.
Can the notary tell me which notarial act I need?
No. An impartial notary cannot choose the notarial act, draft legal language, or provide legal advice. The document recipient, an attorney, or another authorized party should tell you what is required.
What happens during a real-estate or loan signing?
The notary oversees the proper execution of the document package provided by the lender, title company, or other hiring party. Questions about legal meaning, loan terms, or the transaction must be directed to that party.
